Geoff Allen

Every Funeral Should Reflect What Made That Person Special

As a husband and father and now Director of Selwyn Allen Funerals, Geoff is acutely aware of the importance of a funeral that properly reflects the person who has passed on. “Every funeral reflects the individual life of the person, their uniqueness and what made them special,” says Geoff. He says no two funerals are ever the same. “What makes a good funeral is when the family leave with a real sense of pride in the service they’ve given their loved one. “That might be through their own words or the words they’ve given the celebrant or the music or photos they’ve provided for the ceremony. “One of the really nice things is when you look around a room and see smiles. All those memories have come flooding back to people. They remember those things that characterise that person, and that’s a really nice moment.”

Selwyn Allen

Selwyn’s journey into the funeral industry was driven by a genuine desire to help people navigate the complexities of grief and funeral arrangements with compassion and service. “I was a teenager when I decided I wanted to go into funeral service and I was able to realise that dream when I left school.” After 32 years working for others, Selwyn began Selwyn Allen Funerals which is “a small, family-scale operation”. Selwyn is the most decorated funeral director in Australia – a Member of the Australian Institute of Embalming and was Chair for nearly 10 years; a Life member of the Australian Funeral Directors Association and was awarded Master Funeral Director by them. “I’ve certainly had a great deal of experience” says Selwyn.
